The Influence of Godly Leadership
Judges 4:2-8; 5:2-31
"When the princes in Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves—praise the Lord!"
Judges 5:2
Introduction
Leadership matters.
Whether in a nation, a church, a workplace, or a home, leadership influences the direction and well-being of others.
As fathers, we may not think of ourselves as leaders every day. Yet our words, actions, attitudes, and decisions shape the atmosphere of our homes.
Our children are constantly learning from us.
They watch how we respond to challenges.
They observe how we treat others.
They notice whether our faith is genuine.
The story of Deborah reminds us that God often works through faithful leaders to bring hope, courage, and change.
Deborah's Courageous Leadership
Israel was living under oppression for twenty years.
The people cried out to God for help.
In response, God raised up Deborah, a prophetess and judge, to lead His people.
Deborah was wise, courageous, and obedient to God's calling.
She encouraged Barak to step forward in faith and trust God's promise of victory.
Her leadership inspired others to act.
Through Deborah's faithfulness, God brought deliverance to Israel.
This story reminds us that leadership is not about power or position.
It is about influence, obedience, and serving God's purposes.
A Father's Reflection
One of the greatest lessons I've learned as a father is that leadership begins at home.
My children may not remember every lesson I teach, but they will remember how I lived.
They notice when I pray.
They notice when I admit mistakes.
They notice when I choose patience instead of anger.
The example we set often speaks louder than the words we say.
Our leadership is not about being perfect.
It's about consistently pointing our families toward God.
Leading by Example
Children learn more from what they see than from what they hear.
If we want our children to love God, we must demonstrate a growing relationship with Him.
If we want them to show kindness, we must model kindness.
If we want them to trust God during difficult times, they need to see us trusting Him as well.
Godly leadership starts with daily faithfulness in ordinary moments.
Small actions can leave a lasting impact.
What This Means for Fathers
As fathers, we are called to lead with:
✅ Humility, not pride.
✅ Faith, not fear.
✅ Love, not control.
✅ Service, not selfishness.
✅ Integrity, even when no one is watching.
We may not feel qualified at times, but God often uses ordinary people who are willing to follow Him.
Just as God used Deborah, He can use us to influence our families for His glory.
Final Thoughts
The world needs godly leaders.
Our families need godly fathers.
Leadership is not about having all the answers.
It's about faithfully following God and helping others do the same.
Your influence matters more than you realize.
The way you live today may shape your children's faith for years to come.
Ask God to help you lead with wisdom, courage, and humility.
Because strong leadership can help build strong families and a lasting legacy.
A Prayer for Fathers
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the privilege of leading our families. Give us wisdom, courage, and humility as we guide those You have entrusted to us. Help us lead by example and reflect Your love in our words and actions. May our children see a genuine faith in us and be drawn closer to You because of the way we live.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
